THE MEASURE OF A WOMAN

What is the measure of a woman?

Is it a degree hanging on a wall?

Whether she’s curvy, small or tall?

Does her worthiness lie in her beauty

Or in the things that are her duty?

What is the measure of the fairer sex?

Is it her title, rank or role?

Her nurturing ways or depth of soul?

Do we judge her from the outside in?

Collect a count of all her sin?

What is the measure of the one called she?

Is it in her brains or in her heart?

The way in which she plays her part?

Does everything rest in what she knows

Or how she changes, learns and grows?

What is the measure of a woman?

Is it what the world does think of her

In linen, cashmere, silk, or fur?

Does her meaning lie in looks or wealth?

Or could it be in the way she sees herself?

Oh, what is the measure of a woman?
