Six years ago, I moved into a house with my would-be husband and three other dudes. A couple of wedding rings, one spunky Boxer mix, and a sweet-spirited toddler later we’re working little by little to turn this former bachelor pad into a charming family home; one that doesn’t have jello stains on the garage ceiling (don’t ask) and haphazardly patched holes in the wall from the giant piece of plywood that once hung as a dartboard backing.
A former teacher and school librarian, I recently made the major decision to leave a job I loved to make caring for our daughter and running this work-in-progress home of ours a full-time profession. Navigating a newer role as a wife and mother while keeping a household afloat and still having an identity outside of it all can be quite a challenge. It’s something I hear time and time again from the many incredible and hard-working people in my circle. Whether your passions lie in or outside the home, whether you have a large family or are residing in the world of singledom, domestic life can be messy (both literally and figuratively!). But, if we are willing to look for it, there is a beauty that can be found in the practical little things that make a house a home. It is these simple elements of living that have led me to start this blog.
At Practical Little Things you can follow my personal journey to beautify and simplify as I share my inspirations for lifestyle, home decor, organization, and more. I hope you enjoy yourself here and discover some “practical little things” to help make your own life ever sweeter.
